  • Completed:August 2024
  • Construction Period:50 weeks

Summary

The works at Y Muni saw the restoration of the heavily degraded Muni Arts Centre, originally a Wesleyan Chapel built by Knox & Wells in 1895, into a first class music and events venue. The Grade II Listed Building had fallen into a state of disrepair, worsened by poor alterations in the late-20th century. The scheme required a strict and accelerated programme in order to be completed for the 2024 Eisteddfod being hosted in Pontypridd.

The works saw a full internal demolition of the building, structural alterations being made, the church’s original gothic features uncovered and brought to the forefront, a re-slating of the 70 degree pitched roof, stabilisation & restoration of the bell tower, and a full M&E fit-out including the theatre and commercial kitchen.

Knox & Wells kept to a very tight programme and entered in into the spirit of co-operation and collaboration throughout the project. All of the staff and leadership made the project a great success.

The impressive redevelopment of Y Muni has revitalised this much-loved landmark in Pontypridd, and it is wonderful to see it brought back into use as a live events venue. We’re really proud of how the historic features of the Gothic building have been preserved and enhanced, while modern facilities have been installed throughout.
